Inspiration – From Oscar Gowns to Design Boards

Yesterday we posted the details of the second decor design competition. The task was to create a design board that was inspired by some of Hollywood’s Best Dressed at the Oscar’s this year. The design board had to include an element that team could work into future décor designs; whether it be lighting, centerpieces, accents, etc.

Were you able to guess which design board was inspired by which Oscar gown? The results are below. Enjoy!

Design Board #1 by Megan Click

Design Board #2 by Katie Collins

Design Board #3 by Abby Mertz

Design Board #4 by Shannon Hardy

Design Board #5 – Rachel Briggs

Inspiration from Hollywood’s Glamorous

The Duvall décor team held their second design competition. The task: to create a design board that was inspired by some of Hollywood’s Best Dressed at the Oscar’s this year. Imagination was the limit for the designers with one mandatory, the design board had to include an element that team could work into future décor designs; whether it be lighting, centerpieces, accents, etc.

The results will be posted tomorrow. In the meantime, a challenge for our readers: Google Hollywood’s glamorous starlets and see if you can identify which outfit (not movie) inspired each design board.

A Night at the Oscars

Whether you watch to find out which film wins Best Picture or enjoy seeing the fashion, the Oscars always garner attention. To celebrate the creative spirit in film, each year the Charleston Ballet Theatre honors past winners with a performance series called the Golden Oscar. On the eve of opening night, an Oscar Gala was held in celebration at the American Theatre.

Duvall Co-Lead Designers, Rachel Briggs and Megan Click participated by creating a tablescape for the Oscar Gala event. See pictures of their Best Picture winner-inspired table below.

The centerpiece was designed to represent the movie “The Last Emperor.” Two pomader balls were created out of carnations placed atop two vintage candle holders.  They were accented with bamboo sticks and framed pictures from the movie.  Each seat had a custom charger, chopsticks and Chinese food to-go containers filled with themed party favors to include: Chinese yo-yo, Chinese handcuffs and much more!
