Celebrating Pride Month with Duvall

Wedding season is in full force here in the Lowcountry and with June being LGBTQ Pride Month, everyone here at Duvall Catering & Events is reminiscing over our past events and how the community has changed the wedding scene both locally and nationally.

Locally, we have seen a rise in LGBTQ weddings due to the efforts of organizations like AFFA, Charleston’s Alliance For Full Acceptance; approximately a third of LGBTQ couples choose to have a destination wedding and Charleston, South Carolina has been one of the most popular cities for destination weddings over the past few years. The LGBTQ community has also sparked some of the hottest wedding trends seen today, such as micro-weddings, blended wedding parties, and vintage themed weddings. Vintage themed weddings seem to be the newest rising trend, which should only increase the popularity of Charleston weddings with the abundance of historical venues located here.

Our founders, Peter “Stephen” Milewicz and Dan “Duvall” Stephens were a loving, creative couple who knew how to throw a party. Duvall is proud to be an avid supporter of the community since our founding. We have been so fortunate to work with many LGBTQ couples to help their dream weddings come to life. Some of our favorites include; one of our first, Jason and Lee’s modern-tropical wedding at the South Carolina Aquarium in 2015, and some of our more recent like, Bobby and Esteban’s classically-romantic autumn wedding at Magnolia Plantation, and Melissa and Ashlee’s traditional-chic wedding at the Gadsden House this past April. We look forward to celebrating love with all of our future couples!
